Cst. Lundblad, J.L.

May 5th, 2009 - Millet, Alberta Age : 41
James Lloyd Lundblad was born on January 17th 1968 in Valleyview, Alberta to proud first parents Lloyd and Noella Lundblad. James grew up in the small farming community along with his sister Michelle who joined her big brother three years later.
Throughout his school years, James was very active in the music program, joining the high school band as a trumpet player on award winning trips from Vancouver to Los Angeles. He was an average student, and he would be the first to admit he was not academically inclined; however, he would always put his best into every subject and would let the chips fall where they may. James was also a die-hard hockey fan who wouldn't stray too far from the TV when his beloved Montreal Canadiens were playing.
After graduating from high school in 1985, he went to Grande Prairie College to study Power Engineering. He took a job at the Amoco oil refinery in Valleyview, but his heart wanted to go in a different direction; so he applied to the RCMP. He was not accepted; he was told he needed to gain more life experience. So James moved forward; he enrolled in Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, where he studied psychology and sociology. To further prove his physical mettle, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves and completed his basic training at CFB Shilo in 1994.
He made another attempt to join the force, and was again rejected; but instead of giving up on his dream, he went to Lethbridge Community College in 1995 and completed a two year policing course. He then worked as a security guard for Brinks in Edmonton. In 2001, he made his third attempt to join the police force that he longed to be a part of; and as it turned out the third time was the charm.
James graduated from Depot in November of 2001 and took his first posting in Edson, Alberta. James spent six years in Edson and was well respected for his work and community spirit. He would play trumpet at Remembrance Day events and he joined the Royal Canadian Legion. He would also spend much of his free time helping out friends and co-workers if they needed a hand.
In 2007, James was ready for a change and took on a traffic position at the Camrose detachment. He bought his first home in Camrose , and he was looking forward to this new chapter in his life. Tragically, his story came to an end too soon while doing the job that he loved so much. On May 5th, 2009 Cst. Lundblad was conducting traffic enforcement on highway 2a near Millet. At approximately 09:45 a.m., while executing a turn on the highway, Cst. Lundblad was broadsided by a grain truck, succumbing to his injuries on site.
James will be remembered for his booming laugh and his intense loyalty and love for his family, his friends, and his work. He was so proud of his uniform and the RCMP, and those who loved James were proud of him as well.
James is survived by his loving parents Lloyd and Noella; sister Michelle, brother in-law Darren and niece Jordan.
