Constable Robinson was born on April 22, 1985 and joined the RCMP on December 7, 2009. Upon graduation from Depot, Cst. Robinson was posted to Stony Plain Detachment, Alberta, where she worked performing general duties until her death on June 21, 2010.
Before starting her tragically short career as a Regular Member, Cst. Robinson worked for twenty-two months as a Forensic Identification Assistant in the RCMP Forensic Identification Section (FIS) in Edmonton. In 2006, she worked in a similar position as a summer student with FIS in Calgary.
Prior to joining the RCMP, Cst. Robinson distinguished herself as an outstanding student. She started her post-secondary studies at the University of Lethbridge in 2003 after graduating as valedictorian of Picture Butte High School. Cst. Robinson earned the Rogers Sugar Scholarship for Highest Academic Standing and the Board of Governors Scholar Award in her first year there. She then transferred to the University of Toronto to study forensic biology and was on the Dean's Honour List for her entire time there. In 2007, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree and graduated with Honours and Distinction.
Cst. Robinson's academic skill was reflected in the Superior Ratings she received for written examinations during Cadet training at the RCMP Depot in Regina. There she proved to be a motivated team player who used what she learned as an employee to help other cadets who were not as familiar with RCMP computer systems. The qualities she displayed during her training made a significant contribution to the Stony Plain Detachment since her posting there in December 2009.
On June 21, 2010, Cst. Robinson was on patrol searching for an impaired driver near Stony Plain, Alberta, on Range Road 15. At approximately 00:43 hrs while crossing Highway 16, Cst. Robinson was struck by a tractor trailer unit and as a result of the collision Cst. Robinson succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
Cst. Robinson is survived by her parents, Sam and Shelley West, siblings, Katie, Samantha, Robberta, Amy, Frank and Casey as well as her best friend and loving companion Cst. Brendan Flewelling.
