JOHNSTON, LIONIDE (LEO) NICHOLAS - CST.  Regimental No. 48568

Cst. Leo Johnston was born on the 11th of April 1972 in Lac La Biche, Alberta. Leo was shot and killed on March 3, 2005, while on a routine investigation at Rochfort Bridge. 

Leo completed training at Depot on April 17, 2001, at which time he was engaged in the Force and posted to "K" Division, Alberta at Mayerthorpe Detachment where he worked in First Nations Policing and General Policing.  Leo was a remarkable individual who had overcome a near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1997.  Shortly after his recovery he decided to pursue a career in the RCMP.  Leo was an integral member of the Mayerthorpe Detachment and was well known for his energy and sense of humour.  He was a dedicated member of the Force and took very seriously his commitment to his colleagues and his community. 

Leo leaves behind, his wife Kelly of three months, his parents Ron and Grace, and his twin brother Constable Lee Johnston of "E" Division.
