SADEE,  NOEL  SEBASTIAN - CST.  Regimental No. 45253
July 24, 2000 - Desmarais, Alberta Age: 31

Noel Sadee held a life long dream of becoming a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  He graduated from Archbishop Jordan High School, Sherwood Park, Alberta with a Matriculation Diploma in 1989, and attended the University of Alberta from 1989 to 1994, where he obtained a Bachelor of Education Degree.  He majored in Social Studies and selected English as his minor.

Noel channeled his summer employment opportunities to the law enforcement field, working as a Parks Officer in Edson during 1994 and 1995, when he wasn't teaching for Alberta Education.  To develop further policing experience, he volunteered with Lac La Biche RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service.  Noel also gave further volunteer hours to the Edmonton "Meals on Wheels" program, as well as instructed women at the University of Alberta on the Rape Aggression Defense Systems Course.

These career related duties enhanced his application to the Force, and on October 6, 1995, Cadet Sadee commenced his Depot training in Regina.  Upon successful completion he was engaged as a Regular Member on April 22, 1996.

Cst. Sadee took up his first post at Athabasca Municipal Detachment with a keen desire to learn.  He quickly became a welcome addition to the detachment and the community due to his warm, but professional, friendly and respectful demeanor.  Cst. Sadee gained a myriad of experiences in a short time, and was capably handling serious and complex investigations at very junior service.  He set his sights on achieving a position in Drug Section, and took it upon himself to put together numerous successful drug enforcement investigations.

Shortly after Noel's arrival in Athabasca he met Michelle Ann Futoransky, who was the manager of the local travel agency.  She was aspiring to become a regular member of the RCMP.  On June 1, 1998, Michelle commenced her Depot training in Regina, and, after successful completion, was engaged as a Regular Member on December 7, 1998.  Cst. Futoransky  Regimental #47021, was posted to Athabasca.  On August 14, 1999, Noel and Michelle were married.  They purchased an eighty acre parcel with a small modest house, needing numerous renovations.  The two spent much of their spare time renovating the house, maintaining the grounds and playing with their two border collies.

On June 1, 2000, Cst.'s Noel and Michelle transferred to Desmarais Detachment.  On July 24, 2000, Noel and Michelle were required to attend Provincial court in Athabasca.  They traveled by personal vehicle, since there was a shortage of police transport at Desmarais that day.  After attending court and visiting with old friends and co-workers at Athabasca Detachment, they were en route back to Desmarais.  Approximately 30 kilometers east of Slave Lake they were struck head-on by an oncoming, out of control,  converted school bus.  Despite a valiant attempt at evasive action, Noel was fatally injured and Michelle sustained numerous serious injuries.  The tragic events of July 24, 2000, shattered the dreams of this newly wed couple and their walk of life together, as colleagues and husband and wife.

At 31 years of age, early into a rewarding career with the RCMP and a loving commitment to his wife of eleven months, Cst. Noel Sebastian Sadee was laid to rest at Sherwood Park, Alberta.  The sea of red, blue and green present at Noel's regimental funeral paid solid tribute to the loss of one of Canada's finest in this most tragic incident.  He will be truly missed by his loving wife, family, friends and the communities where he served.
